It's never too late to turn it all around. Be honest with yourself and others. If anything you're doing in life is not what you should be doing...stop. Life is way too short to continue in the wrong direction, but the longer that you do, the less time you will have to travel in the right direction.
The utmost the American novelist can hope for, if he hopes at all to see his work included in the literature of his time, is that it may eventually be found to be along in the direction of the growing tip of collective consciousness. This willingness continually to revise one's own location in order to place oneself in the path of beauty is the basic impulse underlying education.
