Life is filled with suffering, but it is also filled with many wonders, like the blue sky, sunshine, dew on a rose, eyes of an innocent child. To talk of suffering alone is one-sided. We must also be in touch with the wonders of life. They are within us and all around us, everywhere, any time. You just have to take the time to notice them.
Suffering is to the heart and soul as tears are to the eyes, cleansing and expelling toxicity from the inner system. When we do not allow ourselves to feel appropriate pain, we move into a sort of non-experience. We watch life rather than live it; we look but never get too close.
We do not know what awaits each of us after death, but we know that we will die. Clearly, it must be possible to live ethically-with a genuine concern for the happiness of other sentient beings-without presuming to know things about which we are patently ignorant. Consider it: every person you have ever met, every person you will pass in the street today, is going to die. Living long enough, each will suffer the loss of his friends and family.
